August 28, 2012 - 12:16am #1

Hi i'm trying the video playback example of vuforia on unity 3.5.5 and when i touch the plane an hour glass clock appears, but then nothing happen the video was never played. What's going on?, what i do wrong?, is there min requeriement?.

PS. Im using windows 7 64 bits, a galaxy tab 10.1 with Honeycomb 3.2.

I haven tried this on iphone/ipad but i hope i get better results, because i need to make a app for the two plataforms and i need android to be working correctly.

I'm also experiencing this problem. At first I thought it was simply trying to load the video but after holding my phone up for about 10 min i realized the video wasn't going to play. No errors on the console. I'm running Unity Pro 3.5 on to an Android device Samsung Galaxy Tab SGH-T849 running Froyo (2.2 & 2.3). I've also tried the demo and converting different video files to different formats (.m4v, .mp4, flv, wav, wmv, etc). Has anyone who experienced this problem had success yet with the demo or with their own projects?

We're still investigating. Please send us your APKs if you can. This is a difficult one to replicate.

Will there be a Bugfix for this in the future?

I use directly the video playback sample with the example videos.

Would it be possible to get a sample of the video that you're using, to test with?

The hourglass issue exists on my Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3, but not on Android 4.0.4. The error occurs on my Xoom with Android 3.2 and not in Android 4.0.4. So it seems to be on Android 2.x and 3.x, or?

Unity can sometimes corrupt video files on import. See this thread for some advice on prepping files for Unity - https://ar.qualcomm.at/content/playing-video-plane#comment-2013708

Hi Wren,

I am using quicktime pro for my video conversions. I noticed that when I use the preset for ipod, I get a m4v file wich is roughly the same size as the sample ones. Also the resolution is the same. Those videos work for me except for the issue I am having in android 3.xx. So it should work for you since you are on Android 4.xx.

You can try to give it a new name, and place it in StreamingAssets folder. Then make sure you set the same name in the videoplayback script. You can change it in the inspector window when you select the video object I believe.

Good luck,

Jeff

Sample app movies play back fine, they are playing in the AR world attached to their image targets properly. So I converted one of my own to m4v and put it in the same directory as the ones used by the sample app. I replaced the path in one of the sample app videos "video" game object to the exact name with extension of my new video, and updated the icon for it also, but when built it goes to hourglass and attempts to bring up a video player on my phone, but never plays.

So curious if my m4v format is different, or if I forgot to do something...seems pretty straightforward. (also, my file was smaller than either of the 2 sample ones)

I also tried MP4, FLV, and 3GP with similar results on all of them.

I am running a Samsung Galaxy SIII with Ice Cream Sandwich. (SCH-1535)

I've got plenty to play with in Vuforia, but if you can help me resolve this, it's just one more fun tool to add to my apps/games.

Thanks in Advance!

We also have this kind of problem. On our android 2.3 devices the app is working as it should be. On our Android 4.xx devices everything also works. with the movie texture and all. But on our tablets wich still run android 3 we have this issue that we see the hour glass, then it freezes and after that the app chrashes.

We are trying to get our app compatible with al versions of Android but are stuck on this issue. Is there any new information since the last message of beginning of this month?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

We've done a round of targeted device testing w/ 3.5.5 and haven't been able to reproduce this issue. If you PM me, I'll give you an email address that you can send your build & run logs to, which will help in debugging this issue.

I've come across a bug as I think. The VideoPlayback sample works well on my Samsung Nexus S, but it doesn't on an ACER A500. Same project, same scene, same everything.

Thanks. We're doing some testing on this. Please try any other devices that you have to confirm whether the sample is running properly. This will help to isolate the cause.

Are these local or remote videos and video format are you using?

Also how large are the videos?

And are you seeing any errors in your build and run log?

We are investigating this issue and will revert back when we have some more information.
