3D simulation of printed markers fails to register

Hello everyone,

Considering we're inching closer to a paperless age, I had this idea of building a "paper simulator": just a 3D scene that allows to dragNdrop the markers and rotate them around. 

Alas, Vuforia fails to register them at all. The texture will register fine, but if it's on a 3D object that's even minutely tilted - nothing registers. 

I don't have a specific question, but any way to resolve this? A lot of people don't have a printer, and I would hate for people to not use the app because they can't be bothered printing it.

What are you using for a physical target? - is this using UDT?
