angle issues: detection and realism

July 12, 2012 - 1:00am #1

hi, it seems that vuforia cannot track images at a nearly perpendicular angle. Say my target is lying on the table, it can't be detected while i'm holding the device upright.

Another thing is we want to be able to make "permanent" objects in the scene seem to be moving with the device. By permanent, we mean it's always there and a child of the ARCamera. but we want their rotations to be consistent with what the camera sees. What's the best way to do this?

Thank you.

Hi foehns 419

it seems that vuforia cannot track images at a nearly perpendicular angle.

Do you mean if the camera is pointed straight at the image, or if the image is almost out of view by being at an angle close to 90 degrees?

Once you have the initial pose/matrix then you can make it a child of the ARCamera.  However once the camera is rotated and the target moves, then have you not effectively lost the pose/matrix? One thing you might be able to do (assuming the image was still in view) is get the initial matrix and the current matrix, work out the transformation between the two and apply to your object....
