Any way available to load ImageTargets via Dataset at run time ?

September 24, 2012 - 3:28am #1

Is there any way available to load ImageTargets via Dataset at run time ??

I have 3 image targets with my attached dataset when i move it to production, after some time i want to load one or more images without user updating the app everytime....

I checked for the Vuforia cloud which is in beta, but it is fully queued and no space for new people to join or test it....so any other way to achieve this ??

Please Suggest...

Have a look here:

https://ar.qualcomm.at/sdk/ios

..under GettingStarted > Unity Extension > Mastering Advanced Topics > Swappable datasets

Also, see this thread:

https://ar.qualcomm.at/content/swapping-datasets

..for others who have tried something similar.

Also you could search the forums for STORAGE_ABSOLUTE to find some other examples.

Hi NalinS,

Thanks a lot for your timely help.

But still i have some doubts. So can you please provide some link to explore more about loading the dataset progrmatically after checking the server ??

I can check for the latest version in server but couldnt get, how to load the new dataset or dataset with updated images after checking ??

Sorry if it is a newbie question... Frown

Hi BeHappy

What I tried to describe was a workaround because at present one cannot extend a dataset dynamically i.e. it has to be done manually.

Suppose this was done on a weekly basis and the dataset was then stored on your server somewhere.  Then the application could check on startup by pinging the server whether it had the latest dataset - if not then it could be loaded.

Alternatively it could try to be more intelligent and manage multiple datasets, but the drawback here is that only one can be active at any point in time.

The other thing to be mindful of is that each dataset can only really contain 50-80 images practically.

Hi Nalin,

Am not able to understand clearly about checking the server and changing the dataset ?

Anyhow i will be uploading all the images to track once publishing and cant insert any new images right ??

At present this is not supported by the SDK.

What you can do is download additional datasets and then use different ones within your application.  So for example, your app could check on the server which is the latest dataset and then download it, leaving previous datasets redundant.
