Crash on Nexus S

April 30, 2011 - 6:30am #1

hi,
i made an application besed on a single image trackable in unity which runs just fine on a galaxy s and a xperia x10i. however it constantly crashes on a nexus s. the strange thing is the normal image targets sample works just fine on all three phones. after running the custom application on the nexus s after the splash screen disappears i can just see a black window and the "developement build" label in the buttom right corner of the display. after the crash i quit the application and it is not visible in the task manager anymore. still the camera of the device can't be used anymore by any other application. the native camera app of the phone as well as google goggles give an error. after a restart of the phone the camera works again.
i'm using the OCAR 1.0, Unity 3.3.0f4 and the nexus s is running android 2.3.3.
any idea what the problem might be?
if you need any further information please let me know.

Has your Nexus S been upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)? Note that QCAR does not currently work with ICS, support for this OS will be added in our next release.

If this is not the problem, please let us know what your specific device model number and Android OS version are. You can find these in the Settings > About Phone menu.

Hi All,

I was having the old version of QCAR SDK in my laptop and I was trying to install ImageTargets sample application from the samples provided by QCAR SDK.. found that there was a same problem with my google nexus S handset....

Even now I downloaded latest SDK "qcar-installer-android-1-5-4-beta1.exe" and seems that the same issues with google nexus S.....

Application is getting crashes (before starting the camera) as soon as it trying to open..

For any further details, Please feel free to write me here :

It looks like he missed the ndk-build step, that UnsatisfiedLinkError means it can't find the .so files.

I/ActivityManager(   78): Start proc com.test.test for activity com.test.test/com.qualcomm.QCARUnityPlayer.PlayerActivity: pid=601 uid=10056 gids={3003, 1006, 1015}
E/AndroidRuntime( 601): FATAL EXCEPTION: main
E/AndroidRuntime( 601): java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: setActivityPortraitMode

this seems to be where it falls over. My boss was compiling the project on his mac, when i send just the apk file and he installs that it runs so it must me a slight difference in android SDK versions or a difference between mac / pc ?

There should not be any issue with the Nexus One running Android 2.3.4 . What error message are you seeing in the logs at the time of the crash?

Hey Kim - yes, I'm using 1.0.0. I think it's specific to 2.3.4, but I'm not 100% on that. Thanks!

I'm still getting reports from my customers that they are getting crashes on Nexus S 2.3.4. Have you guys had similar reports? I've had them clear data, and even uninstall/reinstall but the issue remains.

(On a side note, people in the android market are relentless with the ratings. One crash and get a 1 star rating!)

No updates required. We've updated the device configuration on our servers, if you clear the application data (or delete the app) and run the app again it will download the new data (make sure your device is connected to the internet).

Hi!
How could the issue be fixed? Do we have to download any updates to the package?

The Nexus S issue should be fixed now. You may need to instruct your users to uninstall and reinstall the application on those devices, or they can clear the application data by going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Select App > Clear Data.

Hey Kim,

I'm also getting reports from customers saying that the app immediately crashes when loading an AR scene on Nexus S. I don't have this phone to test on and was curious if you guys had ever tested it.

Thanks!

Could you send us an apk for testing on our end? The source code could be helpful as well, if you can share it.

It's best to send these files using a file sharing service (our mail servers tend to mangle apk files). If you don't have access to one, you can use ours, just create an account with your email address: http://me2u.qualcomm.com

When using that service, send to

Thanks!
