Create "Window" Effect?

April 25, 2011 - 12:47pm #1

I am trying to create an effect like the one shown in this video.

AR Zombie Game

I've looked all over for information on how to achieve this affect. String calls it "tunneling" or "portals" and searching those terms do not bring up anything either. Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to creating an effect to look into your reference image to see other objects but without having them show up if you angle your phone too close to your reference?

Thanks!

This is great! Thank you so much for this! My team searched all over for this information on the site and forums with no luck. If this isn't included in the developer help, I think it could definitely help!

Thanks again, ksiva!!

With Unity this should be pretty easy. We've provided a DepthMask material that you can apply to any surface to basically hide the 3D content behind that surface. It's located in the Qualcomm Augmented Reality/Materials folder. With this, you can box in your game space with planes using this material to effective hide the game objects when viewed from undesired angles. Give it a try!
