Creating virtual button app on unity

November 15, 2010 - 6:33pm #1

Hi, I am new to Unity and QCAR SDK. I went through the dev guide and managed run the sample apps.

My questions are

1) Suppose that I need to build a virtual button like application using the unity extension, is it possible to do this?

2) If i am making an augmented reality game using the unity extension, do I use the scripting language provided by Unity to write the logic?

3) I am trying to build a tic-tac-toe like game with the unity extension, where the scene is locked to a target and I map the virtual buttons to directional arrows to control the game. Any advices on where to get started?

Thanks

Thank you
It is really good news , but I suggest to delay the deadline of the competition for at least two weeks more because VBs are essential in our application.

I don't think it will be possible to add Virtual Button support yourself. The good news is that VB support is on the way, and should be released within the next couple weeks.

Thank you Seantron for your suggestion

I think a good start ,to check if it is possible or not , is by trying to build an application in unity similar to “VirtualButtons” QCAR SDK sample, because the native libraries are already exist . if anyone tried to do this task, please let us know.
But suppose I need to do things more complex such as importing animations from FBX file based on pressing on virtual buttons, how to do that if QCAR Unity extension doesnÂ’t support such functionality ? .

Is the Unity Extension using the same build of the .jars that the regular Native Android SDK is using? Because then is there a possibility of writing your own Native Java code and using that as a plugin to access the Virtual Buttons capabilities of the SDK?

Thanks.

Hi,,
I would like to know when the next qcar unity extension will be released . The deadline of the competition is January 7, 2011 , We need enough time to use virtual buttons and other new features in our applications.

Thank you,,

No updates, virtual button support is still a few weeks off. I'll let you know once we're closer to a release!

Virtual Buttons are not supported in the current version of the QCAR Unity extension. It is on the roadmap however, so you can expect this in a future release.

You do need to use Unity's scripting language to write your game logic. Although I suppose it is also possible to write native plugins, so you could leverage C/C++ libraries if needed.
