Downloading 3D model, then loading from SD Card

June 6, 2016 - 6:18am #1

Hi,

Is there a way to download a 3D model (any format) from a server, save it to SD Card of Android device, and then load it from the SD Card when required? I need to achieve this WITHOUT using Asset Bundles. This is because new models will be uploaded to the server frequently, and it is not possible to create an Asset Bundle for each of them before uploading.

Thanks.

Hi aryaman1994, I try to realize the them technique. Did you found a solution since this time ?

Thanks Alessandro. For anyone who stumbles here, this is the link that worked for me: https://github.com/hammmm/unity-obj-loader/tree/master/OBJ/src. It helps in loading an OBJ model at runtime. If anyone finds a better method, please do inform, as this one takes quite a bit of time to load the model.

Thanks.

Downloading the model and saving to the SD card is certainly possible.

But if you don't use Asset Bundles, you may face some challenges in loading the downloaded models in the App at runtime.

This is really a Unity-specific question, not so much about Vuforia itself.

For example, the same topic is discussed here:
