Having different AR Camera configurations for each scene on 6.2

February 3, 2017 - 4:25pm #11

A huge problem I have with 6.2 is that now there is one global VuforiaConfiguration file that applies to all scenes. I need to have different ARCamera settings per scene--which is how Vuforia worked forever until this latest update. Is there any way to have different VuforiaConfiguration files per scene? This is a huge problem.

This change to a single global config file is truly baffling.

You really need to update Vuforia so that you can use a different config file asset with each scene.  Perhaps the ARCamera can have a reference to a config file, and if one isn't specified it uses the global one? The configuration inspector could have a button that saves out a different file instead of editing the global config.

according to 6.2 release notes, from now there will be only one configuration.

Vuforia is initialized and deinitialized only once per application instead of every scene

This means (I suppose), AR camera is initialized only once in a single APP.

That is disappointing and I have not found any 6.2 migration guide for now.

However good news is that I tried more than one tracking sources in a single scene and it worked.

For example, you may start AR camera with DEVICE_TRACKING and still be able to detect image targets and vumarks and show relative content on them.

Glad I found this thread.  This is incredibly frustrating.  I simply want my user to be able to choose full screen mode or video see through mode and cannot find a way to do so.

Anyone know if Vuforia plans to address this?

Obviously nobody at Vuforia uses their own plugin. I had to rollback to 6.0 because 6.2 basically destroyed my app due to this absurd feature.

Changes like this seem to confirm Vuforia's days are numbered. Definitely time to get acquainted with alternatives. Anyone know what the best replacement for Vuforia is? I've been looking at Kudan myself. Seems to be the most promising.

it's pretty obvious that Vuforia staff/mods doesn't seem to care anymore, more so after the takeover. typical answer from them are either out of their scope or just playing dumb. I'm glad I'm just testing and not paying for the crappy service. It's just a shame which was used so be a good development plugin for AR turned into crap.
Unfortunately, Kudan is pretty expensive, else no one will use Vuforia anymore. Other best option is EasyAR. But their forum is in Chinese.

i agree and think the configuration should be separated from initialization. I understand why they would chose to do that however it did present a bug on the settings where a scene with extended tracking is opened after a scene with "start smart terrain automatically" set in its AR camera. the script settings will now be frozen in the editor and you wont be able to turn either smart terrain or extended tracking on the objects.

i do like all the main settings in one place though. i wish settings would be set according to the ARCam settings on each scene but for now workaround would be to programmatically set the settings.

Did any of you find a solution?

I also had to roll back my project to 6.0. Really puzzled why they did this. I have a project with 3 different scenes with their own type of tracking. All completely different. Doesn't this happen quite often? One app for 1 project/client with multiple types of tracking?

Maybe override all settings with a separate script attached to AR Camera. Don't know if this is possible for all the AR Camera settings. Hope that this is addressed in the next version.

Luciano

Hi, Vuforia Team, are you alive?

I have the same problem with Vuforia integrated into Unity 2017.2p1.

Vuforia starts in the menu scene of the app, and it is in every scene of the app.

If I uncheck "Delayed Initialization", then for the first scene (app menu) Vuforia wants to initialize:

"Vuforia cannot be started before it is initialized.

Please disable Delayed Initialization in the Vuforia configuration or initialize Vuforia manually with the VuforiaRuntime-class."

This post over on the Unity forums has a solution for disabling Vuforia in scenes you do not want it in. We are aware of the issues this is causing our users and are working towards a solution.
