Help with animated model displayed off target

August 14, 2013 - 7:15am #1

Hi,

I have problem while trying to display 2 animated 3D model simultaneously using ImageTarget. The first model is displayed fine, however the second model, upon targeted, is seem to collide with the first one. I've tried various setting with World Center Mode but the problem is still there.

This seem to happen with animated model only (both of the model is from Mixamo). When I try to display the second model without animation, everything is fine.

In the picture above, the Tarmac Image Target is detected first and the Rocks target is detected second. The animated girl model and the non-animated zombie model is displayed correctly while the animated zombie one is hovering above the image target.

In this picture, the Rock image target is detected first and the Tarmac second. Again, both animated girl and non-animated zombie is displayed correctly while the animated zombie one is collided with the girl. I do set the World center mode on the image target containing the girl model but the same behaviour is also happen with World Center Mode on first target.

Here is my current Unity settings:

I do realize this problem mostly concern unity but it could be some obvious thing somewhere I'm missing. So I would be very grateful if you could point me the right direction for this.

Thank you very much,

Hi David,

Thanks a lot for your recommendation so that I can do further research on this. I'll share the result so that others can benefit from this.

I use the Mecanim animation system so that your empty game object trick is not working at first. Instead, I try to change the rig animation type of the zombie model to Humanoid and do the empty game object and everything working perfectly fine. In case your model is generic, a guy from here recommends using double empty object or sticking with the legacy animation system.

Hope this help,

The first thing to try, is to add an empty GameObject as the child of the target w/ the animated zombie and then make the animated zombie a child of that GameObject.

e.g.

ImageTarget

  • GameObject
    • Zombie

This will enable the zombie animation to be independent of the local space of the target. Often when you see problems w/ model animations in Unity, it's because the animation was designed to run in world space, and so this arrangement enables you to rescale and position the model correctly for the top level parent object.

*You can name the GameObject whatever you want.
