If you are wanting to change a target in a Cloud DB from Active to Inactive using PHP VWS, then you will need to set the 'active_flag' field to false in your JSON object that you send to the server. The UpdateTarget() method in the UpdateTarget.php example is the place to set the fields for the JSON request:

$this->jsonBody = json_encode( array( 'active_flag' => false ) );

The VWS API specifies which fields you can update for a specific target:

You can read more about the PHP json_encode method here:

http://php.net/manual/en/function.json-encode.php

The PHP and Java VWS sample apps may not follow the exact same code structure, so you have to look for where the JSON body is constructed. In the UpdateTarget.php file, you'll want to add your JSON body field options to the array seen in the highlighted line:

function UpdateTarget(){
    $this->requestPath = $this->requestPath . $this->targetId;
    $helloBase64 = base64_encode("hello world!");
    $this->jsonBody = json_encode( array( 'application_metadata' => $helloBase64 ) );
    $this->execUpdateTarget();
}

You can use the VWS API to activate and inactivate targets in a Cloud DB:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/updating-target-cloud-database

Example from UpdateTarget.java VWS sample:

requestBody.put("active_flag", true); // Optional
