Is it possible to track image on a glass.

July 4, 2011 - 6:39am #1

I was wondering if anyone has successfully managed to track a image on the glass. I tried to track a logo that was on the glass door. The logo itself gave a 5 star for tracking but there were many transparent details on that logo. So i tried to track the logo on the door and it almost did not do anything. The lighting and transparent background made it nearly impossible to recognize the image. But the same logo on white sheet of paper was running very smoothly.

Semi-transparent glass around the logo would probably help as well. The application is probably picking up many points through the glass that don't match the pattern. You have to remember that the camera is interpreting a 2D image and comparing it to a pattern with known artifacts. If there are a ton of extra artifacts, then it's hard for the app to determine where the item it's looking for is. (i.e. Where's Waldo)

It is possible, but the lighting conditions need to be right. Avoid backlighting the target, and the use of transparent elements within the image target. Backlighting is likely to blow out the image, and transparency will alter the contrast.
