Limit AR to portion of the screen

I'm using AR in an app that has a UI taking up a significant portion of the screen. It seems a waste to process the camera feed and do AR detection on a portion of the screen that is obscured by UI, so I started looking into limiting the camera rectangle using the camera property "Normalized View Port Rect". Unfortunately, setting the AR camera's view rect to anything other than full screen disables the camera feed and squashes the 3D rendering.

Is there some way to use AR on only a portion of the screen in Unity?
