Load 3D-Object from external source

November 27, 2013 - 2:19am #1

Hi all,

when we develope the app (right now) we want to change some 3D-Animations and want to see how it looks like in the app and on the target (not only in the 3d program).

It costs much time, to render the object, load it into unity and compile the app (ios). So I tried to find the code, where the object is loaded and replace it with some code which loads the object from ftp or a local server. The problem is, I couldn't find the code, where the object is loaded.

Can anyone help me to find the code, where the 3D-Object is loaded?

Best regards,

emha

Great. Yes, Asset Bundles are a great resource.

Hi,

Even though it took some time, I was able to implement this using Asset Bundles.

Thanks,

Hi,

Few issues I came across while dynamically loading a 3D model are:

  1. Device out of memory error
  2. Texture issue - How to apply multiple textures to the model parts?
  3. Lighting issues

Thanks,

BP

If you're using Unity Pro, you can utilize Asset Bundles for this purpose.

Also have you tried running your scenes in Vuforia's Play Mode for Unity?  - https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/tutorials/vuforia-play-mode-unity
