Non-uniform shake that gets progressively more noticable over time

November 15, 2011 - 3:43am #1

Hi,

I'm using Unity 3.4 with the QCAR Extension but I'm having a problem.

After about 2 minutes of tracking it starts to become noticable that the objects on the marker are not moving totally in unison, I have baked shadows on the 3D and it's quite clear that an object that was tight against another to start with is now moving and shifting away from it gradually.

Has anyone else had this problem with multiple 3d objects on a marker?

Cheers,

Changing the world center mode to None seems to have sorted it.

I've sent you a pm with a link to a video showing the shaking, I tried setting the World Center Mode on the ARCamera to USER and dragging the trackable into the World Center field but then when I built it nothing appeared on the marker and I'd like to be able to use more than 1 target.

Hmm, we haven't seen anything like this. Any chance you can share screenshots or video?

If you're using a single target try setting it to be the world center. Set the World Center Mode on the ARCamera to USER and drag that trackable into the World Center field that appears. Does that help at all?

Yes they are all children or children of children.

When we imported our model into unity we got a main model prefab with all the meshes in the 3d as children of it, then we attached the main model gameobject (which has the animation component but no actual mesh itself) to the trackable object. Everything starts off in the correct place but overtime they seem to be shaking against each other.

We're working with an iPad2 if that makes a difference?

The solution I've been using is having an overly large scale on the marker object. This seems to reduce the shaking but it's definately still present.

Are your objects children of the trackable object? That's the best way to guarantee that they stay attached.
