Number of trackables detected: 1; but no specific trackable found. What gives?

April 9, 2013 - 9:44am #1

I am having a hard time improving trackable. Putting some of them to greyscale & playing with contrast sometimes increase the star-rating, but decrease actual detection in the application.

Moreover, I often see "Number of trackables detected: 1" without having the 1 test tracker being detected, while it is on-screen. Then if I remove the tracker from camera range, it shows "Number of trackables detected: 0" without having found and/or lost a specific trackable.

I don't quite get it... how can it detect a trackable without finding & enabling it? What can we do to improve initial detection of trackers, if pure star-rating doesn't help?

I don't believe I saw the issue in databases where all the targets were completely different. But I think I saw this in databases where targets were similar. I was experimenting between targets that were similar, for instance, a different border, or large parts that were the same. It makes sense that this wouldn't work looking back, but I would have expected the wrong target to load, rather than no target loading at all.

Identical targets in the same DB isn't supported. Are you still seeing this issue, when there are only unique targets in the DB?

In some cases I've had trackers that never load, even though the console says "number trackers detected: 1." I'm not sure if this explains every case, but I had some databases that included multiple targets with the same graphics. When I split the targets into separate databases it worked perfectly every time.

I have this problem, too.

The console shows "Num trackable detected: 1", but the Trackable never loads until I take the image out of the camera view and return it. It seems to be getting stuck at "Num trackables detected: 1" before saying "Trackable stones found." This happens about 20% of the time.

I'm using the standard stones tracking image, printed in grey scale on a 8.5 x 11 sheet. The same issue happens both with iOS and the webcam preview in Unity.

If you can post, or PM, a picture of your target(s) we can give you some advice. The rating is a composite of multiple factors and so it's often beneficial to do the sort of testing that you are performing to determine the actual performance.

Oh, it seems I had another non-enabled target that did track...

Still, I am having issues making fast-detected targets. Once they track, they usually keep tracking, but the initial tracking fails more than I'd like to.
