Publish to G2 Doesn't work anymore - screen dark

January 14, 2011 - 2:38pm #1

I've upgraded everything- Unity, Eclipse, SDK, and now I cant' publish a working version.

Sound works okay,

OpenGL2 chosen

Even my old files when I try to re-publish using older Unity Extension/etc do not work.

Any ideas? Time sensitive!!
Thanks!

EDIT: I did not upgrade Java Dev Kit or Android NDK though

To overcome I am simply copying the APK to phone, and it works!!

If your Android install has a platform-tools directory, make sure you copy that adb.exe file to the tools directory like I mentioned earlier. That's the only thing I can't think of without seeing the error messages.

I will try.. unfortunately after changing some of the support software installations (attempting upgrade) Unity does not recognize my Android - does not see it when building.

Try this:

Look at your Main Camera (not the ARCamera) in the inspector. Set the Clear Flags to "Depth only."

Okay, I'm looking at your project now. It seems to be an issue with the second camera object, when I disable that the video background comes back. Play around with that, I'm not sure how it's supposed to work...

That's strange, you shouldn't need the NDK for a Unity project... But sure, set it back to 4b.

Just sent you the project.

Just to try, I also updated the NDK to latest, but now Unity doesn't see my Android device, hahah. I guess I should re-define my Environment Variables back to 4b?

Let me know,
Thanks!

Okay, I have the apk, and I'm seeing the same results (dark background, music playing). I don't know what target you are using so I can't test the tracking.

I can't tell what's going wrong from the log files... Could you possibly send me the whole project, that would be the simplest way for me to help debug.

Oh, also the model is upside-down on his phone.

Sure, send me the apk. I didn't get the log file, did you email it?

My partner can view model on his phone (in another part of the world) - he says no camera but the target is being picked up and he can view the model and load sounds.

Interesting!
Would it help if I sent you the apk?

Okay, first let's get the full log output for a clean run. If you don't know how to do this, here's how:

1) Browse to your Android SDK folder, go to the tools folder, run DDMS.
2) Click on your device in the list.
3) The log section should fill with data, click the Clear Log button (little page icon with a red x).
4) Run your application.
5) In DDMS, save the log using the Save button (floppy disk icon).
6) Paste the full contents here.

Thanks!

Haven't upgraded to Gingerbread.

When I build and run, no errors, and the Unity app loads on the device - but screen is dark with "Unity Demo" in lower corner.

Using Eclipse just to update all the little android packs.

Just discovered to move the .adb file, so no listed errors upon build.
APK size is under 10MB

Dark = no video in background, and no 3D model to be seen

I don't know what other settings to change...
Do i need newer Java Dev? All worked in previous versions..

Okay, so that's Unity 3.1.0f4, which should be fine (it's not a beta version).

Did you upgrade to Android SDK r08 (gingerbread)? Unity 3.1 isn't compatible with that version of Android out of the box, but there's an easy fix. Go to your Android SDK folder, and copy the adb.exe file from the "platform-tools" folder to the "tools" folder.

It's still not clear though, are you able to run the application? You say the "screen is dark." Does that mean no video in the background? Getting the log output would be helpful.

Ouch I have the latest Unity build 55865- if I just install older version, should it know what to do, or do I need to uninstall?

What do you mean by Beta? I'm on 3.1 latest update.

Thanks!

We're going to need more information. What version of Unity did you upgrade to? Note that the QCAR SDK does not work with the latest Unity beta, you need to stick with 3.1.

Why are you using Eclipse? (Eclipse isn't necessary for Unity development)

Does the application build in Unity? Can you push it to the device using a Build and Run? Can you run the application on the device, and if so, what are the results?
