Replacing camera with a video stream

March 20, 2014 - 8:35am #1

Hi,

We have a video streamer implemented in-house which works in Unity and we would like to use it for AR. We would like to replace whatever input Vuforia cameras are taking and make it use our own video stream. Is that possible?

A colleague recommended to create a virtual webcam and use that one as destination for the video stream and input for Vuforia. but that seems a lot more like a workaround than a good solution. It would also only work in windows AFAIK

Also, the video stream is stereo, is there a way to use Vuforia even if it's using 2 regular webcams? And in Unity :)

Thank you in advance!

So what I found out is using a ElGato CamLink you can stream any feed through HDMI into vuforia.

!!Warning!! - May cause a permanent editor Playmode glitch where it freezes 8-9/10 times on play. But it does work in UWP builds! But this is not a full solution for mobile feeds.

Look at the external camera feature and see if it meets your needs. https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Solution/external-camera.html

Hi!

Is this possible yet, or still in queue?

Thanks!

Sorry no.

However please feel free to add this to the wish list.
