Split up big marker in multiple small markers

May 24, 2012 - 2:02am #8

Hi,

we have a large marker (1m x 1m) and it should be possible to view just a part of the marker (very close distance between marker and pad) to view details. We've tested it using a normal A4 printout and it worked quiet well. But with the big marker we have problems in finding a track when we are already very close.
So my idea was to split up the marker into 4 pieces register these markers and place my imagetarges in the scene so they make up the big marker. Thats working well but from time to time the object is shifting away from its original position (when moving from marker A to marker B).
I've also tried to use a multimarker: made a box and moved the positions of the sides inside the xml so I have my plane marker again. But that didn't work at all. The object is placed in weird positions like correct size with the bottom left corner at the right side of the bottom left marker; correct position but double the size and so on. Also its shifting very much when shaking the camera. So I've stopped using multimarkers and try to figure out a better way to use normal imagetargets.

Anyone got experience with big markers in close distance or split up markers?

Not sure if the UCS project would be good for this project. I don't want the user to record the marker positions first and I don't want to spend money on the extra extensions :) Also my marker positions are known (2x2 square)

MultiTargets should be the best approach. I've developed rather large flat targets this way. Have you verified your config definition to confirm that the dimensions and orientations are correct - e.g. does it look correct in the Editor?

Also are all of the sub-targets conformed to the same unit scale?

How big was your marker and how many tiles did you have?
It looked right in the editor, but I'm going to check the sizes again.

I've recently developed examples that are up to 5' x 3' composed of 4 targets, and also done some tests on projected targets that were about 16' x 9' using 4 and 8 targets.

Feel free to PM me your target image and dataset if you'd like for me to take a look at it.

5 Years later i need nearly the same, BUT it seems the multytarget has changed a lot...

Could someone please offer a good method to have multiple target flat like flooring that detect all the same object´s?

Thanks for your help!

hello,

5 years later, i´ve got the same problem like vbox.

But the solution for self generated multitargets isn´t available anymore!

Are there any new solutions to split a large city map into several tiles?

Or some other methods to get the same result?

thank you for your help!

Best regards

Manu

Hello Manu,

You can modify the xml file that contains your multitarget to rotate and translate the sides of the target. This can allow you to have 6 sides of your multitarget that all face the same direction.

Alternatively, you could create a separate image target for each section of the city and set your "Maximum Simultaneous Targets" field to the number of segments you split your map into. This would allow you to detect both single segments of the map and large chunks of the map simultaneously.

Let me know if you have further questions on this.

Thanks,
