Unity 4 release and Vuforia support

June 21, 2012 - 10:56am #1

Hello,

This post is about the Unity 3 Extension, but I didn't find a more proper thread to post my question.

As you already know Unity has announced the new Unity 4, with new features, probably to ship at the end of the year.

My question is: Will Vuforia support Unity 4 at some point?

I am close to buy my Unity Pro licenses and I am bit worried if Vuforia will support Unity 4 at some point or we will need to stick to Unity 3.

Thanks in advance,

 I'm blown away they still have no immediate fix...

So now that Unity 4.0 is officially out. Is there any ETA on when /if there will be a release of Vuforia 2.0?

I have a client wanting to use some AR in their U4 dancing game and I woulfd really like to use your toolkit.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi guys!

Besides what Atti pointed out to make Vuforia works with Unity 4, I want to add that I have tested one of my AR apps and it run "correctly" on a iPad running iOS 6 with Unity 4 beta. All seems to work correctly despite some warning messages sent by Xcode. I also performed the changes necessary to run the app on iOS devices recommended by the Vuforia guys.

However I decided to switch back to Unity 3.5 because I think is the safest bet right now to ensure more stability.

For what I could test the imagetarget worked correctly, including sound, gui textures, scripting in C# with a scene of around 50k polys. I did not detect mayor problems in the execution.

I hope the info could be helpful even if it is very general.

Hi atti,

At the moment there is nothing we can add to what was said below.

It is kind of you to point out the changes that might be required, however we are well aware of these as we have been shadowing Unity 4 for a while ;)

The other thing to point out is that Unity 4 has no release date at present.

*bump*

it's been a while and now the second public beta of unity 4 is out. any update on how vuforia will be ready? it would be much appreciated.

thanks

edit:
to be a bit productive here,  let me post the changes you need to apply to "Assets/Editor/PostprocessBuildPlayer" to make Unity4 work again:

line 246:
appcontroller.write('\tQCARUnityPlayer::getInstance().QCARNotifyCreated((int)surface->targetW, (int)surface->targetH);\n')

line 262:
appcontroller.write('\tQCARUnityPlayer::getInstance().QCARSetOrientation((int)orientation);\n');

with Unity4 beta 11 iOS 6 support was introduced. they changed the way the Unity views are handled, which causes more problems with vuforia (here in landscape mode respectively).

still waiting for a statement/ a solution/ a beta for this problem.

Well, all we can say is that Unity 4 will be supported.

The two pieces of information that are missing are the release dates for Unity 4 and for the next version of Vuforia - we have no news on either of these.

So to continue this thread because i just went to buy a new license for a second development machine and i've noticed the 4.x is being sold on the front line. However i've not seen anything about your schedule to update.

I was just wondering if you have an offical timescale you go by for updating?

I have my machine for the moment so i'm not upgrading until you guys do, but i do have to give higher ups a reason i'm holding off on the purchase.

Cheers

We will support Unity 4 after it is available. We do not have a firm date at this point
