Unity Filesize on Device...

So, the apk is about 7 MB, on the device it weighs at 17 MB... What's with the discrepancy?

I think you need to add the preferExternal flag to the manifest file in the Plugins/Android folder. That's the QCAR manifest, and it is merged with Unity's manifest during the build. Try that and let me know if you get the same results.

Hi Ina,
One good thing probably is, even if you load with a lot of things, the filesize does not increase that much.
It starts from 15 MB but even if you add quite a bit (we tried total of 100 thousand poly) - it did not go beyond 25 MB.

We did not test anymore, but usual things it was ok. For particles, when we added more than 5, it started to slow down a lot. Until 2 with lot of effects were still ok.

Yup, prefer external has been set in the manifest in my
G:\Program Files (x86)\Unity\Editor\Data\PlaybackEngines\androidplayer since the last time I asked this question... Still shows up as 17 MB on device.. :-(

Not sure how this will scale with apps that load more stuff, especially given the Android Market's new 50mb file limit.

Have you tried setting the android:installLocation="preferExternal" flag in the Android Manifest? I've noticed that apps installed to the sdcard seem to be much smaller (go figure).

I'm honestly not sure why the application bloats like this on install, it's some strange Android quirk. 17 MB isn't a problem for a competition submission, however :)
