Video Play Problems

May 13, 2013 - 2:06am #1

Hello,

I am programming on Unity and Android.

When I build the vuforia Video Plaback Unity Sample App on my HTC Desire c, only one video can be played on the Texture. The other one plays sound for 3 seconds and then the busy Icon appears and nothing else happens.

When i build the sample app on a HTC one, both videos can be played on the Texture without problems.

How can I play both videos on the texture on my HTC Desire?

Thanks for the answer.

Hi Andrea,

Have you tried placing your video in the StreamingAssets folder ?

Also, don't forget to inlude the extension of the file in the inspector, like "MyVideo.mp4"

I have succesfully made a 30MB m4v video work, so size isn't a issue*, and i don't think the issue is your video format.

*However, I have seen certain devices fail to load my video when others could : they just weren't performant enough to even start the video, and the load icon would stay in place like if it's actually doing something when in reality, it failed. You may want to try with smaller videos (or the ones given in the sample app) to see if your device is able to load them.

I hope it was usefull, (and without spelling errors ahaha :)  )

Awaiting your reply.

Hi,

I'm trying to resolve an issue and I've been hitting a dead end. The video is not playing, there is just an egg timer showing up and my video icon is flipped/mirrored after the build. The correct scripts are attached to the AR camera, the target images are checked so the issue is not there, the video is an mp4 file, 16MB, and in the assets folder.

Perhaps I've described the path to the video incorrectly, or I'm missing something. Do I just put the full breadcrumb path to the video in the video playback inspector? Any help would be appreciated!

using iOS6 and Unity 4

Hello,

( *Sorry for the bad english*)

I also have a problem with the video playback.

Right now i am programming on unity for an android app (current testing device : Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1)  and the application crashes after a couple of videos played  due to memory issues. I have tried to unload every videos right after they finished playing, which increased the maximum number of playable videos from 2 to 16, however, it is still crashing.

Is it because the video doesn't free all of his memory space when unloaded  ?

Also, is there something more that could be done other than unloading the videos?

Thank you for the replies.

Hi, this issue  indicates that the HTC Desire C does not have enough resources (maybe graphics memory or other graphics-specific capabilities) to handle more than a video on texture, or maybe just not eanough system resources to load and play the second video with the Android Media Player.

Maybe worth checking in some Android-specific forums / websites, as the video handling limitations do not come from Vuforia per-se.
