Are you trying to view the video while in Unity PlayMode or are you using a device?

I'v used the unity playmode, and it doesn't work.

then I packaged the apk file to run it from a device and it didn't work either.

In regards to the VideoPlayback sample app for Unity, video playback isn't supported when running in Unity's PlayMode. It should work fine on a device, though. Could you try installing the precompiled videoplayback-3-0-9.apk that we provide to see if that works on your device? Which device and OS version are you using?

I'm using Samsung S5 and kitkat OS

on miy Samsung S5

and on my friends devices :

samsung S4-Xperia Z2-Nexus 5-HTC  one

If the pre-compiled apk works, then when testing the Unity version of the VideoPlayback sample on the device, have Android Logcat open in Eclipse with the device connected and watch the logs to see what the error is when the video doesn't play. If you are using an old version of Unity (prior to 4.5) you might want to upgrade as well and check the you are compiling the project to a recent enough version of Android API.

It sounds like you have an Android configuration problem. If you search Google for the following text, it will return many results:

"Conversion to Dalvik format failed: Unable to execute dex: Multiple dex files define"

I fixed that problem.
and Now the app is launching but the video wont play :(

The description "video won't play" is a bit too generic. You might need to do some digging to get more detail/errors/logs about what's happening. I'd recommend using Android logcat to view debug logs. The videos in the Unity sample are the same as those in the native sample app. You can try compiling the native sample app from Eclipse to see if that works. Also, you might want to verify that some of the other Unity samples compile to the device okay.

The video wont work I mean when I start the camera the app detect the target but the video linked to the target shows just the error icon (X).

I'm just wondering about the path of the video how it should be ? I just put "VuforiaSizzleReel_1.m4v" as a path.

the files locate at the "StreamingAssets" folder .

I hired a freelancer to get this fixed but he didn't get to the bottom of this unfortunately.

having the same issue.  Started a new project and the video playback on an android device will not work anymore????  

UnityDownloadAssistant-5.5.1f1.dmg  ( even tried the older versions 6117 and etc it will not work???? )

vuforia-unity-6-2-6.unitypackage  ( even tried the older verison 6117 and multiple versions of unity older versions and it wont work??? )

using the samples-eyewar-  and samples-advanced projects

the image target is recognized the video loads but with auto play turned on or off the video does not start you just see the play icon ready . you do not get the busy or error icons when you run on the device.  the project ussually would just start playing and show the play icon once completed????

Unity gives you an error message when you try to import vuforia as well keep in mind i just ran this setup at the end of january as i had to write instructions on how to create these projects and everything was working fine.  As of Feb nothing works, this is mission critical as we have a project to create and we cannot even present to the business team.....   

Had this issue and luckily was an easy fix (at least for me).

In documentation and in comments below people refer to the Vuforia video file as "VuforiaSizzleReel_1.m4v". If you look through your Assets folder, it looks like in some update along the line the video was re-encoded as an .mp4 so changing the path in the Video Playback Behaviour script to "VuforiaSizzleReel_1.mp4" works without giving you the X. 

Here's the format info as well if anyone's having a problem with the encoding on their own video: H.264, 640x360, Millions AAC, 29.97 FPS, Progressive Field Order, Square Pixels (1.0), NTSC, Profile Main, Level 3.1

HidingGlass thanks for the reply, nice to know someone else is looking at these things...  Unfortunately I ran into this issue in the beginning Unity and Vuforia and was able to get that working.

The issue I'm having and my teammates are having still persists...  We have both mp4.s and mv4.s and neither work for Auto Play.  You have to add the tap to play component to make the video play and pause.  Issue is that is 1 not intuitive and 2 not practical for AR.  People are none techy and want to simply look at a picture and watch what happens they wouldnt even think to test.  And that is what we are finding in our tests with users "maybe they'll click it" and they dont they simply say "I think its broken" or "nothing is happening"....  

Thanks Unity and Vuforia we are stuck waiting for them to fix again...  This happened last summer too and we were stuck waiting for them to fix the issue until we could begin development again...  How are these 2 companies not talking to each other and keeping up with updates...???

Hm. I'm getting auto-play to work with no issue in Unity 5.5 and vuforia 6.2.6. This is my basic setup:

-Replace Default Trackable Event Handler (Script) on Image Target prefab with Trackable Event Handler (Script) found in Scripts/TrackableEventHandler)

-Added two scripts to AR Camera Asset - PlayVideo (Script) with "Play Fullscreen" unchecked and Video Playback Tap Handler (Script) -- (both found in Scripts folder)

-Added the Video prefab (Vuforia Video Playback/Prefabs) as a child of the Image Target

-Set Path (be sure video is in StreamingAssets folder with no subfolder)

-Be sure "Auto Play" is checked on Video Playback Behaviour (Script)!

I am having the same problem. What I am not able to understand is that I was able to play video in unity 5.5.1f3 but after upgrading to unity 5.5.1p3 it is not working anymore. when i load and build my old scene (of 5.5.1f3) it displays error vuforia not initialised on my android mobile. plz suggest what to do?

It has started working. I was importing vuforia video player  asset folder by dragging from other project in old unity. after downloading and decompressing https://developer.vuforia.com/downloads/samples?d=windows-31-22-4819  (vuforia-samples-advanced-unity-6-2-10.zip (151.87 MB)) and then importing from unity file is working fine. :)
