VideoPlayback Unity-iOS problems after app reopen

December 9, 2014 - 6:08am #1

I've found several bugs with the VideoPlayback sample application when I'm running it on iOS. Both of them hapens after app reopen (After I've pressed the Home button and returned back to the application).

1. As a user, when I'm triyng to initiate a video playback, only an audio begins executing. I need to click play button one more time to actually start a video.

2. Frequently, when I'm taking away camera from ImageTarget the video continues to play.

Great !

Note that the same sample code fix will also be included in the next release of Vuforia.

Update:

there seem to be a simple fix that you could apply directly in your sample code:

Edit the code in the VideoPlaybackBehaviour.cs script (under the "/Assets/Video Playback/Scrips"  folder):

1. add a private variable:

private bool mAppPaused = false;

2. then, in the OnApplicationPause(bool pause) method, add this line right at the beginning:

 mAppPaused = pause;

3. Finally, in the OnRenderObject() method, add this line right at the beginning:

if (mAppPaused) return;

We are currently investigating this. This seems to happen on iOS8 only.

I've tested newest Vuforia 4.0 beta using fresh VideoPlayback sample. The problem I've described is still there: After I'm reopening an application and trying to play a video - only an audio will be executed, I need to click play icon one more time to actually initiate a video playback.

The reason for compiling and running the native iOS (non-Unity) version of the VideoPlayback sample app is to see if the problem is specific to the Unity sample app. The native and Unity versions have differences. The native version will be slightly faster and some issues with quickly suspending and resuming apps may not be seen with the native. It would be helpful to do that test. Also, which device and iOS version are you testing with?

I didn't tried, but even if the native-iOS app works fine it doesn't resolve the issue with the Unity-iOS.

Are you able to reproduce this same behavior with the native (non-Unity) iOS VideoPlayback sample app?
