Vuforia Application bring to sleep modus in Android?

April 19, 2013 - 3:32am #1

Despite that I have taken out "android.permission.WAKE_LOCK" from the Android Manifest. I can't bring my Vuforia Application to sleep modus.
What do I have to disable to make it work?

Thank you for your help!

There is a method in QCARRuntimeUtilities to ResetSleepmode()

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/api/unity/class_q_c_a_r_runtime_utilities

This should enforce that the App respects the sleep mode of your device settings

Hello AlessandroB,

the sleep mode works when the app starts (I deactivate the ARCamera in Awake() function in my start scene).

But if I have even activated the ARCamera and then deactivate it again. The Sleep mode does not work anymore.

What should I consider when deactivate the ARCamera, so the sleep mode still works?

Quick update:

a new version of the Vuforia SDK (2.5.7 for Native SDK and 2.5.8 for the Unity extension) has just been released:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/sdk/unity

This version also contains the fix for the issue you reported below.

Thanks.

Hi Russel,

we have identified the issue; a solution is also on its way, which will allow the developer to control the possibility to allow sleep mode.

This fix should be released in the next SDK release, but I don't have confirmed dates at the moment. I will keep you posted.

Hi Russel,

we have identified the fact that just by "importing" a Vuforia package into a project (even if the scene does not contain any Vuforia elements, such as ARCamera) causes the AndroidManifest to be modified and use QCARPlayerActivity and/or the QCARPlayerNativeActivity and/or QCARPlayerProxyActivity

So, the issue is probably caused by the use of one of those classes.

However, at the moment we have not identified any fix for this yet.

I have made to work Pushwoosh, but the problem with the sleep mode is unfortunately still present. :(

Ok the problem is apparently still. In Pushwoosh no camera image is displayed (I still have this problem fixed). So here is the problem not available, because apparently the QCARBehavior in Pushwoosh not work.

Sorry for the probable false report.

By using the Pushwoosh Plugin (Push Notification Plugin) I could fix the problem. No Idea for which reason.

That is, from my side I can do anything? I have to wait for an Vuforia Update?

Quick update: trying on Android native (not Unity), it works OK; in that case, the ImageTargets sample has specific code to prevent from sleeping; by removing the specific sample code, we can have device screen going to sleep normally after some time.

This confirms the issue is with Unity only. Will update you later on.

Hi, I'm investigating the issue; it seems there is something that prevents the device from going to sleep (despite stopping QCARBehaviour)...

I will report back. Feel free to ping me if I don't come back soon.

Can I get the app to sleep with this solution? Did you also tested?

I have made a quick test, and indeed there seems to be something preventing the App from going to sleep normally;

you could disable the camera, by calling CameraDevice.Stop() method, or (recommended way) by disabling the QCARBehaviour which is attached to the ARCamera (this will automatically stop the camera and the tracker)

First for clarification:
- Vuforia Android in Unity3D never goes into sleep mode by itself, right?
- How do I disable the AR camera so Vuforia goes into sleep mode?
- Why does Vuforia this permission: android:permission.WAKE_LOCK?

goToSleep is an Android-specific function. How can I  call this function from Unity without create an Eclipse project?

Hi, have you tried the goToSleep method ?

I'm not aware of anything specific in Vuforia that should prevent your from sending the app into sleep mode.

Maybe check the Android developer guide:

Is there no way to go into sleep mode? Screen.sleepTimeout not work!
