Why are almost all Vuforia inspector settings disabled?

August 30, 2016 - 9:20am #1

Can anyone clarify why most of the Vuforia settings I attempt to access in the inspector are greyed out? And why do they all begin with the single letter 'M'?

All I do to get to this point is I start a new 3D project, then I import any of the sample unity packages that I downloaded today (for example ImageTargets-6-0-114.unitypackage). Then I load any of those sample scenes (for example, Vuforia-3-ImageTargets). And as I peruse the objects in my heirarchy, I cannot access any of the Vuforia settings for that object in the inspector. View the screenshot for an example.

Can anyone off insight?

Okay, here is the solution to what I was experiencing.

(Dm3d, thanks for the response, though for my particular situation, having the inspector in debug mode wasn't the problem.)

From our IT group, they said "I simply added your account to the local admin group, installed Unity from your account, and then removed your account from the admin group." So, again, my problem was caused because Unity was installed on a non-admin account, so the solution was to uninstall Unity, temporarily add my account to the admin group, reinstall it, and then they reset my permissions. After that, Unity and Vuforia talked together just fine and all inspector settings for Vuforia components were accessible.

Okay I'm making progress on this problem. Figured I'd give an update in case one of you Googled and found yourself here with a similar problem.

It seems to fundamentally be a permissions issue. I work at a large agency, and my computer does not have full administrative access. I installed Unity while logged into my account, and then utilized some administrative credentials to complete the installation. It appears that Vuforia is tapping into a permissions conflict, because if I install Unity while logged in with administrative access, Vuforia settings in the inspector are not greyed out or disabled and I can access things just fine. RIght now our IT department is trying to figure out a solution.

So in short, if the inspector is full of greyed, disabled settings for Vuforia related items, it may be a permissions problem.

Oh, and if it's helpful, I'm running Unity on a Mac, version 5.3.4f1 Personal.

Hi, thanks for your response and willingness to help.

When you say "Vuforia 6 Unity Extension", do you mean the SDK? If so, then in a sense, yes. I have downloaded the SDK, vuforia-unity-6-0-114.unitypackage, and the sample pack I downloaded is vuforia-samples-core-unity-6-0-114.zip. So assuming you are referring to the SDK, there doesn't appear to be any need to import the base SDK, THEN import the sample package, because the sample package seems to come bundled with the appropriate SDK already. In fact, if I do import the SDK and then import the sample package, there is a part of the ensuing dialog that actually says "removing previous package."

Does that clarify things?

Hello,

Did you import the Vuforia 6 Unity Extension before importing the ImageTargets sample .unitypackage?

Also, what version of the Unity Extension are you using? https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/Vuforia-Supported-Versions

Thanks
