Working in unity 4.3?

April 3, 2014 - 3:39pm #1

So I've been using unity 4.1.5 and vuforia 2-6-7 because that's the last build that was stable for me.....

I just upgraded Unity to 4.3.2f1 and vuforia 2-8-9 figuring maybe it's fixed, so I set up the build settings and imported the vuforia 2-8-9 sdk package and the image targets example, and it crashes Unity editor when I hit play........

Yes. This is also stated in the first page of the Getting Started guide:

https://developer.vuforia.com/resources/dev-guide/step-1-installing-extension

Windows installation

The recommended development environment for Android is Microsoft Windows 7 32/64-bit or Windows XP. Note that Unity 4.1 or later is required.

Yeah I've tired 4.2+ and have had this problem. On the Unity 4.3.4 with Vuforia 2-8-7 and image target example from 2-8-9, right after importing it and testing it works perfect. But I made a few simple changes instead of turning off renderer/collider as the default script does, I simply made an array of gameobjects for each target and turn them on/off with setactive() depending on whether the target is found or lost....then whenever I hit play it auto crashes the editor immediately. I made sure I'd already switched platform to android. I'll do more tests on Monday, it's on my work computer...

I had the same problem with unity 4.2, 4.3.2, and the newer vuforia. I keep finding myself using unity 4.1.5 with the 2-6-7 era Vuforia packages and that works perfectly....

Is there a log for when unity editor crashes? Or any way to see why?

The computer has windows 8. I'll try to report it/submit to Unity and see what I come up with.

Hi Imbarns,

I have tried doing the same as you (download U4.3.4, open the Vuforia samples with it, add some custom script to some of the children of an image target, edit the code, switch back to Editor and play),   but I could not reproduce any crash.

BTW: are you running on Windows 7 ? (I did test on Windows 7 and no issues so far).

I recall that in the past there have been some reports of instabilty when adding or editing scripts when using Unity 4.2, but that did not seem to be strictly related to Vuforia (as the issue was also reproducible with other projects, when using many assets and scripts) and it also seems to be completely resolved with Unity 4.3.x (4.3.0, 4.3.2, etc..).

Have you tried with Unity 4.3.2 as well ? or only on 4.3.4 ?

Note that you can also report a bug to Unity when the crash occur; they will assign a ticket number to your case.

So I upgraded unity to 4.3.4f1 and vuforia 2-8-7 with the image targets example for 2-8-9, and while that did run, the second I add any code to any of the objects that are children of the image target, it crashes Unity immediately upon pressing Play in the editor.............

Then even after removing the code it crashes instantly after hitting play with the newest version......

It looks like you're using an older version of Unity. I'm using the following versions and everything is running well:

Unity 4.3.4f1
Vuforia Extension 2-8-7
Vuforia Samples 2-8-9
