All objects are appearing below/behind marker

July 31, 2018 - 8:32am #1

Hello!

I'm attempting to modify the base provided Unity Vuforia example.

I'm even using the 5-star markers that they provide (the leaves and rocks) in their guides. Importing the images works great (5 stars), and i'm setting their size to be appropriate (.1524 which is 6 inches in meters).

Placing my objects on top of the image in Unity. When i build it and run the application, EVERYTHING appears behind all of my markers. Its like several inches behind where the marker is.

Any ideaS?

Thanks!

Hello,

Right now I can only think of a few ideas:

  1. The HoloLens user calibration may be off. I would suggest doing it again for yourself
  2. The printed target may not be of the correct size. This is a typical gotcha for see-through eyewear experiences that does not occur with mobile devices. If using Vuforia's markers, be sure that they are printed to the exact size as specified in the sample project
  3. If all else fails, try deleting the "Library" folder in your Unity project and rebuilding. We've seen cases were issues that cannot be explained or replicated were resolved with a complete rebuild

Thanks,

I have updated to the newest version of Vuforia, but this is still happening.

Here is the test i just ran this morning. I placed an object on the ASTRONAUT marker that comes with their standard unity package. Directly ON TOP of the marker.

Placing the marker at the edge of a table really highlights this, so i did that - Low and behold, the object appears UNDER the table for me in AR.

However, the weird part is - i tried to take a video of it with Cortana to show you guys - but in the CAMERA on the hololens, this appears as it should. in the image i took, the object appears on top of the marker as it should. only when its actually functioning in AR does this seem to happen.

(Note: the picture attached is with another of their sample markers - the rocks) - However, in my view, this blue area appears BELOW the table

Hello,

To upgrade the version of Vuforia embedded in the Unity Editor, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Unity Editor
  2. Select Window->Vuforia Configuration
    • If there is an error message about Vuforia not being enabled, please follow the instructions and restart this process
  3. If your version of Unity is eligible for a Vuforia update, you'll see a message and link to download the installer
  4. Download and extract installer executable from downloaded ZIP file
  5. Run the installer executeable
    • For Windows, select the folder that corresponds to the installed version of the Unity Editor that is eligible for the Vuforia update. Ex: C:\Program Files\Unity_2018.1.4f1
    • For Mac, select the drive
      • Note that for Mac, the installer executable will default to /Applications/Unity. This is a limitation of the Unity installer scripts. If you have multiple Unity application directories in this path, rename the target Editor version temporarily to /Applications/Unity to complete the installation
  6. Restart the same version of the Unity Editor in Step #1
  7. Verify the update in the Unity Editor via Window->Vuforia Configuration

If you have any previously installed Vuforia samples, you'll also want to download the updated versions of those from the Asset Store.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support

I'm currently using vuforia version 7.0.50

However, when i try to update the vuforia version, it says "Cant find Unity.exe" despite me pointing to my install directory/editor (where the exe is)

Ok so you are using Hololens.  Details like this are important to get the correct help.  You are using the latest Hololens sample from the asset store?  What version of Vuforia are you using?  Note the release notes here state a fix happened in Vuforia 7.2.20 for offset augmentations on Hololens (not sure if related).  https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Release_Notes/Vuforia-SDK-Release-Notes.html

I agree that this does not sound normal - hence the reason for posting here.

At this point I REALLY dont understand what is wrong.

I did a fresh download of their Unity Vuforia example, removed the markers they have in the scene, and used the SAME MARKER they have for the astronaut, but instead put a cube right smack on top of it.

When i deploy, the cube appears behind my marker, about halfway sticking out. Definitely not like the vuforia examples i used to play with.

What are some potential hitch points that could be wrong here? I'm using their included markers (not even doing any of my custom ones), and just a simple model. Instead of appearing on the top of the marker as it should, it is appearing behind it (i.e., if i'm looking top down at it, it appears BELOW the marker - if i'm looking straight at itm, it appears behind it)

This obviously doesn't sound normal and you're most likely doing something incorrect.  Sharing screenshots of issue, your marker, what device you're running on, etc would all help diagnose the issue.  The more info the better.

Note: Even taking their BASE unity example and using one of my markers results in my models being placed below the marker. Even when i use their models (i.e., the astronaut)
