Android 8 vs 9

December 21, 2018 - 3:26am #1

In my scene, I am using a basic mid air stage (no extended tracking) and am getting different results for Android 8 vs 9. Android 8, it works as expected but Android 9 produces an error "could not create Anchor".

I have tried adding extended tracking with track device pose. That eliminated the issue in Android 9 but caused other problems in Android 8. Also, I don't really need extended tracking. Just device rotation.

Hello,

Here is a link to the Vuforia Core samples: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/templates/packs/vuforia-core-samples-99026. Normally these would be downloaded via the Unity Editor: Window->Asset Store.

I'm not aware of any Vuforia feature other than Ground Plane that would allow for the placement of mid-air anchors. This use case is specifically demonstrated in our sample code.

I would recommend that Vuforia Fusion be allowed to choose the platform CV provider. You find more details about Vuforia Fusion here: https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Training/vuforia-fusion-article.html

Thanks,

Could you link me to the 8.0 Core Samples please?

As for my project, I do not have ARCore Supported in the settings. I didn't think I needed it. Also, I am not using Ground Plane in my scene. Just a mid-air stage and positioner. Is that an incorrect use?

Hello,

I just tested the Google Pixel 3 with our 8.0 Core samples, specifically the Ground Plane feature which includes mid-air anchors, and it worked fine.

Not sure what's going wrong here. Is ARCore installed on both devices? Do our samples exhibit similar behavior?

Thanks,

The Android 8 device is a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Android 9 device is a Google Pixel 3.
