Is "arcore.aar" really required for Vuforia Fusion?

November 13, 2018 - 3:35am #1

Hello,

I tried to not add the arcore.aar plugin in the Unity editor Plugins > Android folder, but I still got that Vuforia was using the PLATFORM_SENSOR_FUSION as the provider.

Moreover, I didn't noticed any considerable changes after adding the .aar plugin.

How do this plugin is used? And is it really necessary?

Thanks.

Thank you for the answer.

Yeah it was my fault, I didn't notice that after removing a plugin from Unity it is necessary to reload the project for the change to be applied, so even when I was removing the ARCore .aar file, Vuforia still detected ARCore in my app.

Without that file Vuforia does not detect ARCore instead.

Hi and thank you for your answer.

I forgot to mention that I was using a Samsung Tab S3, which is in the supported list.

The thing I'm not understanding is why is it necessary to put the .aar file in the Plugins > Android folder if Vuforia uses the ARCore installation (from Play Store) on the supported device? Or did I misunderstand your answer?

Hello,

This will depend upon the device you're using.

Vuforia Fusion will provide the best platform CV solution. First, it will check if ARCore is installed and if the device supports it:

https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices

If ARCore is *not* installed (your case) or if the device is not supported by ARCore, Fusion will check if Vuforia VIO is supported:

https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/vuforia-fusion-supported-devices.html

My guess is that you're using a device that is supported by Vuforia VIO but not ARCore.

Thanks,
