How to import Vuforia Books Sample project into Unity?

April 5, 2018 - 3:18pm #1

Hello. We're trying to import the Vuforia Books sample complete project in the Unity Asset Store into a blank new Unity project, but are getting a series of errors in the console and no augmented reality camera or other Vuforia assets appear in the untitled scene after the import.

How should this be imported?

We installed Unity (version 2017.3.1f1) using the download assistant and included Vuforia Augmented Reality Support. (We have successfully built a couple of basic Vuforia AR apps and compiled them into working APK  files running well on Andoroid phones, so we are confident the basic environment is set up correctly).

Here's what we have done to import the Vuforia Books Sample:

We created a blank new project and switched the platform to Android in the build-project settings, checked Vuforia AR in the project XR settings and disabled Android TV support. We then went to the Asset Store and located the Vuforia Books Sample and clicked the Import button. We watched as the package imported.

But the result does not look like a proper package. And the console contains the following errors:

Overriding existing asset with new GUID from package, this may break links within your project to package assets (Assets/Resources/VuforiaConfiguration.asset)

'Assets/Models/VuforiaMars_ModelTarget/ddcf29fe83b64ee984697b36afc5e823/Model.prefab' is not a valid prefab since it has no root game object.

Timestamps (279) and assets (278) maps out of sync - repairing...

The AssetDatabase contains a timestamp for 'Assets/Resources/VuforiaConfiguration.asset', but no asset. This timestamp will be removed from the database.

What are we doing wrong in our attempt to import this? Thanks much!

Hey,

I got the same error message and got the sample running by changing  SamplesAboutScreenInfo.cs.

I changed the code on line 77 to

string vuforia = Vuforia.VuforiaRuntime.Instance.HasInitialized

                                ? "<color=green>Yes</color>"

                                : "<color=red>No (enable Vuforia in XR Settings)</color>"
;

At least that got the app running on my Android phone.

Regards

Tobias

What version of Vuforia, Unity, and the samples do you have?

Thanks. We have installed Unity 2018.1, now that it has been released, and updated and loaded the Vuforia Core Samples project from the Unity store into a blank new project (after enabling Vuforia in the project build settings).

However, we are getting the following error in the Unity console after the core samples project is loaded:

Assets/SamplesResources/VuforiaSamplesUI/Scripts/SamplesAboutScreenInfo.cs(77,58): error CS1061: Type `Vuforia.VuforiaRuntime' does not contain a definition for `InitializationState' and no extension method `InitializationState' of type `Vuforia.VuforiaRuntime' could be found. Are you missing an assembly reference?

How can this be resolved, so we can study the core samples?

Thank you.

Can you check what version of the samples you have installed? You can check this in Assets/Vuforia/version. Can you also confirm the version of Vuforia installed? This is found within the Vuforia configuration.

Thanks,

Vuforia Support

Thanks. However, the latest available Unity version on their download page is 2017.4, which we have now installed . The download assistant for Unity installs Vuforia version 7.0.47. We tried that combination of versions, but got the same installation errors.

So it looks like we'll have to wait until your team looks into this, or the new Unity and Vuforia updates are generally available.

In the interim, could Vuforia update this article with a complete, functional c# script, instead of just snippets of c# code so we can evaluate whether this platform will work for us?

Thanks.

Hello FutureOfNews,

I'm noticing a similar error when trying to run the Book Samples on Unity 2017.3 with Vuforia 7. I'll be investigating this with the team to find out a good resolution to the issue.

In the meantime however, this sample works fine in Unity 2018.1 with Vuforia 7.1. I'd recommend using that version for now if you are able to.

Thanks,
