Image Targets Database and Android app

March 6, 2020 - 6:06am #1

Hi, i am currently learning marker based AR and stuck on a problem. Lets just say that i have 20 images in my database and i download them as a unity package to be used as local database. I create my android application and [LETS JUST SAY.....Publish it on playstore]. If in near future i add more image targets in my vuforia developer portal database. Is there any way to use them in my PUBLISHED* application without releasing an update of the application? Please i dont know if i am making my question clear but this thing is bugging me for a long time....

Any guidance will be a huge thumbs up...

Thanks

Sure you can do this.  You'll have to handle the hosting, downloading, initializing functionality yourself or you could use the cloud option to make it easier.

It'd probably look something like this for local database updates:

1. Download your new targets from the manager you want to include and post to a webserver.

2. Update a manifest text file/xml file (that also resides on server) that list all current markers on the webserver.

3. Have Unity app check this manifest on every launch and download all missing makers

4. Then use this code to initialize them(scroll to bottom of page): https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Solution/how-to-create-and-load-targets-in-unity.html
