I'm after having a simple pop up text appear when an icon is pressed, then close the pop up when you press it. There's tutorials on rotating 3D models and scaling them but nothing on this topic. Has anyone done this sort of thing before please?

I was under the impression this was done with AR virtual buttons but could I do it with Unity UI buttons?

Virtual buttons are not dynamically generated by device rendering. Rather, they are part of the printed target that when occluded by your finger or whatever, will provide an indicator back to the application.
