Spotlight between two objects

I want to have my cuboid target emit light using a spotlight on to a Single Image target. Note that I have 3D objects that can create shadows on the single image. But the spotlight from the cuboid doesn't seem to work on the Single Image objects.

Any ideas? Thanks!
