Stacking virtual content (e.g. Cup on top of a Table)

My ultimate goal is to be able to have a terrain placed through either the new ground plane feature or an image target, then have multiple game characters placed on top of this terrain while taking height of the terrain into account.

I have looked and not found any examples of this. Is it possible to set up the terrain using ground plane, then use markers and set the virtual content on top of this terrain? Or maybe use a marker for the terrain also?

I am sorry this is such a broad question, I am new to Unity and Vuforia working on a new senior design game project in college and trying to study possible solutions using Vuforia.

Not totally clear what you are asking, but yes, I think you could use a ground plane and then on top of that multiple image targets to form a kind of dynamic terrain that you can move around and change on the fly.

Ok I think I understand.  You can cover an image target to a certain degree.  A few small pieces shouldn't pose too much problem but no way of knowing it will work well without testing.

You can also try having a single image in the middle of the map and use that as the starting point for your augmentation. You can have the augmentation cover the full size of the map, while having the image target that starts the experience be a smaller image.
