Using AR for a level design grid

we're creating a game using a grid in AR. A base board of 8x8  filled with cards is used to

design a level which is then scanned in AR using QR codes. My questions is , would 8x8

be registered well enough to provide consistent results with the board being a total of 40-80cm

and the camera being a high resolution webcam?

Hello stijnvgaal,

8cm is fairly small and you may run into issues, but it is still possible. We generally recommend the max distance to expect for detection is a camera-to-target distance of ~10x the width. So in this case, you can probably detect your target at a maximum distance of 80cm away, but this is all subject to various other factors including the device's camera, lighting, camera focus, and image quality. You can help this by creating a good lighting environment with minimal, or no, reflection on the target, keeping the target in focus, and ensuring that the target you're using is 5 stars (refer to this https://library.vuforia.com/articles/Solution/Optimizing-Target-Detection-and-Tracking-Stability).

To address your last point, Vuforia only supports webcams in Unity playmode, otherwise you are restricted to using the device's camera.
