Vuforia Camera Jitter on cylindrical target

August 9, 2019 - 2:10pm #1

Hey all.

From what I've seen in the forums, this appears to be an ongoing issue. However, in my situation the target was working fine up until a few versions ago where it suddenly became super jittery.

We're using a Cylindrical target that has a rating of 2, but that's due to the nature of the target.

As an image target, it has a rating of 5 stars.

The target is going on one half of a large column at a tradeshow, so size isn't an issue.

Does anyone have any tips on how to reduce the jitters, or maybe know why it's moving all of a sudden?

Hello,

It's difficult to say what may have changed between SDK versions as you have not specified them. However, the one big change that comes to mind is our switch from SLAM to VISLAM for Extended Tracking (via the Positional Device Tracker). It may be that your 2-star target needs tracking "help" from time-to-time, and the switch to VISLAM has negatively impacted the performance you're used to seeing.

Noting that the Positional Device Tracker (via Vuforia Fusion) is required for the Ground Plane and Model Targets features, it can be disabled for 2D planar target tracking (such as Cylinder targets) to use the legacy SLAM tracker. If you wish to disable this, and not benefit from robust platform tracking tech such as ARKit and ARCore, then you can disable these using Vuforia Engine APIs. Please refer to the following article (see Fusion APIs section): https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Training/vuforia-fusion-article.html.

And the following APIs:

Hope this helps.
