What exactly happens from scripting point of view when we run a basic AR app?

I'm completely new to Unity and Vuforia so I tried to create a simple AR app with an image tracker and ran it on my webcam. I'd like to understand how the app works "behind the scenes" as in what scripts get called,the functions involved and coding stuff like that. I tried reading the Vuforia library but could not understand much. I wish to create an app where one can dynamically determine the image target and dynamically decide what AR object needs to be placed on the image target(it's a virtual trial room app). This is possible only by attaching scripts and knowing how Vuforia works. Can someone please explain it to me? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
