Qualcomm, I understand that you need to have a ROI for Vuforia. I knew that a library with the performance of Vuforia would not be free forever. But I think many developers expected a better amount of communication from you regarding the new pricing scheme. We've been teased with the imminent pricing scheme for months now, but while you have been developing the technical side of things, you have waited until the last minute to spring this new, and rather extreme, tiered pricing on us. Many of us perhaps thought that the prices would be more reasonable than some of your competitors. Yet your prices make some of those one-time fees look like peanuts in comparison.
This incident is emblematic of the lack communication with developers that is all too often present when sales and the technical side do not communicate with each other. The fact that no-one from sales is on the forums immediately after your announcement answering our questions does not bode well for the future loyalty of your developers. I speak only for myself, but I imagine many of us are figuring out how to switch to your competitors as soon as possible.
Qualcomm, please answer our questions post-haste. You can rebuild developer loyalty if you respond to our reasonable concerns and questions quickly. If you don't, you may find out there aren't developers left to use your software.
Thanks for all of your detailed feedback. We’re reading every post and we hear you. Stay tuned for updates coming shortly.
