Unity 5.1.1f and vuforia 4-2-3 black screen on nexus 9

June 24, 2015 - 4:20am #1

I am getting a black screen when I use vuforia on a nexus 9 tablet. I use the latest unity 5.1.1f1 and the latest vuforia 4-2-3 version. I've tested my app on different Android phones / tablets (Sony Xperia Z3, Samsung Note 3, Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5, Nexus 9 tablet and Samsung Tab 3) and it worked on each of them except for the nexus tablet. The S5 and Nexus tablet have the same Android version (android 5.x) . So the issue can't be caused by the android version, right?

I also checked if the camera had the right permission, which was true. I have no idea why it works on each android smartphone but not on the nexus 9. Any ideas?

This is the complete overview of the Player Settings:

Note: if you're using Vuforia 4.2.3, you may want to upgrade to the latest Vuforia 5.0.5.

Check the Android Player Settings;

  • Device Filter must be set to ARM v7 (do not use the FAT (x86 + AMrv7)
  • the Automatic Graphics API should be disabled (uncheck the checkbox)
  • the Graphics API list should only include OpenGL ES 2.0 (if you see "OpenGL ES 3.0" => please remove it from the list).

I am having this same issue with the same build of unity and vuforia.

I am using a galaxy note 4.
It works fine on my Iphone 6.

Is there any rules of thumb when using Unity - Vuforia for Android?

I tested both the 4.2.3 Android sample app and the 4.2.3 ImageTargets sample in Unity 5.1.1f1 on a Nexus 9 (5.0.1) and they worked fine.

  • Have you tested using our ImageTargets 4.2.3 sample app?
  • What Android "Player Settings" do you have in Unity?
