Vuforia UWP Export

March 30, 2019 - 8:26am #1

Apologies this is a very basic question, from a very basic user.

I can successfully export my Vuforia document from Unity to a working android APK. Want to export a standalone app for my Surface Go.

Is there a decent guide available? The ones I've seen all appear to be out of date (all reference Windows Store and not the UWP).

Converting to Universal Windows Platform warns me that "Selected Visual Studio is missing required components and may not be able to build the generated project." - no reference to what is missing.

Running Visual Studio 2017 15.9.7

Unity 2018.3.6f1

Vuforia Engine v8.1.7

Many many errors when exporting from Unity.

Visual Studio only allows attachment to Unity, not standalone.

Clearly there's some basic knowledge I'm missing, a simple up to date guide would be very welcome, or link.

Thanks so much.

Vuforia UWP Export

Vuforia does not provide in-depth articles on how to build for UWP in Unity as we don't own the workflow.

However, here is my high-level overview of the steps required for building the Vuforia Core samples:

  1. Import the Vuforia Core samples into a new Unity project
  2. In the Unity Editor, open File->Build Settings...
  3. In Build Settings, if Platform is not set to "Universal Windows Platform", select it and click "Switch Platform"
  4. In Player Settings, confirm that Vuforia Augmented Reality Supported is selected in the "XR Settings"
  5. In Build Settings, select Build and create the folder where the Unity export will be placed
  6. Once the Unity export is complete, go to the export folder and open the .sln file there in Visual Studio
  7. In Visual Studio, right-click on the selected project in the Solution Explorer window and select Store->Create App Packages...
  8. In the "Create App Packages" window, select "I want to create packages for sideloading"
  9. Click next and select the output location and architectures you want built
