vumark width

I am trying to use vumarks for a mixed reality app for HoloLens (1st generation).

After creating a vumark using Adobe Illustratror and when uploading it to a vumark database on Vuforia developer portal, a width value is needed.

How would an accurate width value be obtained for a vumark? Would the vumark svg file generated by Adobe Illustrator need to be printed first to measure the phsyical width of the vumark? When measuring the vumark, should the border layer's width be measured or does the vumark feedback layer need to be included as well? The magenta color around the border? See attached image.
