VuMarks not detected when deployed to device

June 7, 2019 - 5:28pm #4

Hi,

VuMark is detected okay when testing in the Unity editor but when deployed to a device, either iOS or Android, the VuMarks aren't detected at all.

- There's no info in the debug console when trying to detect.

- Tested under different lighting conditions and multiple devices.

- Tested with different versions of Vuforia and Unity.

- Image targets and also the Vuforia sample VuMark work ok.

- Using Classic license but same issue also occurs when yusing a test license.

So, it seems to be an issue with our VuMark. Just wondering why it works ok in Unity editor and not on devices.

The VuMark .svg is attached. Any info or tips on what may resolve this ? Thanks for any help.

VuMarks not detected when deployed to device

Hello,

I tried using your VuMark template with Vuforia Engine 8.1.11, Vuforia Engine Core samples 8.1.11, and Unity 2018.4.0f1. I successfully uploaded the VuMark SVG to the Target Manager, created an instance and a device database, but after importing into the Unity Editor I was not able to see your VuMark detected when running in Play Mode. For a sanity check, I switched back to the Core Samples VuMark device database and that worked fine - the VuMark was detected and logging messages appear.

I'm checking with the team to see if I can get more feedback on the design.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support

Hello,

We believe the issue with your VuMark design is the broken contour. Please review the "Border and Clear Space Width" section of the following guide: https://library.vuforia.com/content/vuforia-library/en/articles/Solution/Designing-a-VuMark-in-Adobe-Illustrator.html

Specifically, "The Verify script doesn't automatically provide a Pass/Fail result for the Border and Clear Space widths..." It is possible to provision a VuMark with a broken border - but it will fail detection, because "The Contour is not explicitly drawn or visible in a VuMark design. Rather, the Contour is the line that appears where two other parts of the VuMark meet – the Border and the Clear Space. Essentially the Contour is defined by the contrast between the two different colors of the Border and Clear Space." and that "The Contour is a part of the VuMark that is implied by the line created when placing the Border and the Clear Space next to each other. The Contour must consist of straight lines that form a closed path"

Reviewing the source SVG file, we see that it breaks on the lower left and right corners. Please see the attached.

Thanks,

Vuforia Engine Support
