February 26, 2016 - 5:47am #1

Hello Friends,

As we know, we have a Vuforia's Tool-> Object Scanner for making a real world objects as markers for augmented reality. This tool is capable of scanning only tiny and very small toys and objects. I would like to scan some medium size real time objects such as a table/chair or a bag or a coffee maker etc., But it doesnt seem to be possible with available tool.

Could anyone please help me on how to scan these type of medium size objects to use as markers using vuforia and Unity3d for android??!!. Any suggestions / ideas much appriciated.

thanks...:) Jeeva

Vuforia Model Targets is the most recent advancement in Vuforia object recognition. Model Targets allow for the detection and tracking of objects based on existing 3D models. Model Targets can be created for a wide variety of items ranging from industrial equipment and vehicles, to toys and home appliances. Apply for early access here.

For tracking in environments, stay tuned for Vuforia's Smart Terrain feature on Tango devices:

"PTC, Inc. today announced that Vuforia will support devices based on Tango, a set of sensors from Google, for development of a new generation of interactive AR experiences. Originally announced in 2014, Vuforia Smart Terrain was designed to make use of a new generation of depth-aware camera technologies, such as those in Tango. The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro and ASUS ZenFone AR are the first commercial smartphones with this capability and signal a new generation of devices that deliver a dramatically improved AR experience, and lead to further AR innovation and adoption.

Vuforia Smart Terrain provides developers with an easy-to-use representation of the physical environment. Vuforia Smart Terrain delivers a hierarchy of objects and surfaces similar to a scene graph, but designed for AR development. This environmental scene graph is created dynamically, and can include objects defined by a developer as well as objects and surfaces reconstructed from the environment. This provides greater creative freedom for developers and designers to build experiences that are triggered or controlled by specific objects, and can interact with the surrounding environment. For example, toys can now come alive and roam a child’s playroom; furniture can pop out of a catalog to redecorate any room in the house.

Vuforia Smart Terrain will initially describe the environment geometrically, but over time it is also expected to describe the environment semantically to enable further creative power for developers and designers. Vuforia Smart Terrain with Tango is expected to be available in Unity Fall 2017."
