How to Deploy Application with Unity Extension?

November 12, 2010 - 4:21pm #1

My Unity scene is all ready to publish. I have the AR Camera, ImageTarget Prefab, and a Light all ready to go, but I'm having trouble with deployment.

Here are the instructions in the documentation:

"
Now run your application on a supported Android device. You should have a printout of the appropriate image target in front of you, you can find the PDFs in Editor/QCAR/ImageTargetTextures/imageTargets_forPrint.zip. When you look at the target using the device camera, you should see your cube object bound to the target. Congratulations, you have successfully augmented reality!
"

Is there a more detailed description on what to do here? Are you supposed to use "File>Build&Run" from Unity's menu? If so, then to publish to Android from here we would need Unity Android, which is not available yet.

I think the instructions should be "Augmented" just a bit, lol.:D

What am I missing?
Thanks,
Eric

I agree our Android beta policy is somewhat restricted. However I can promise you 30 days trial with no questions asked if you mention that you want to try Qualcomm AG plugin.

Please email to

and get a 30 days trial.

We'll also implement the Android Trial button on the website at some point.

After trolling the Unity3D forums, it seems like their "general policy" is to only offer the beta/ trial only to those who have pre-purchased the Unity Android license.

I have emailed them directly to see if they will make an exception for this usage- as it is a bit difficult to swallow the idea of purchasing a $1500 license if we are merely testing out its feasibility with QCAR.

If anyone knows different please let me know.

Cheers,
Eric

So there's no free trial bundled with the Unity Pro free trial? Thats what I downloaded and there doesn't seem to be anyway to deploy onto and Android device with this Unity Pro free trial.

Guess I may have to buy it...

Yes, Unity Android is available. We've been on the Android Market for more than a month with it already and it works very well. Are you referring to a trial version not being available yet?

When you have Unity Android, building is simple: Choose Edit/Project Settings/Player and fill out your Publisher Settings. Then Choose File/Build Settings and hit the Build button. This will create a .APK that you can deploy to your device.

Hmm, sorry, I thought it was a little more straightforward to get a Unity Android trial license. Let me ask internally how this is supposed to work!

I know you can always email Unity directly, if you explain that you're working on Unity Android AR projects they might help you with a trial license or access to the beta.

Hopefully I'll have a better answer soon!
