ios front camera landscape mode black bars

Hi all,

We're developing an AR application in Unity (5.6.1f1) and the latest Vuforia. On iOS (some devices) we are experiencing some odd issues with the front camera.

I have searched the forums for my issue - but it doesn't turn up anything I could use.

The application is landscape. Orientation can be either left or right. When activating the front camera we sometimes have two black bars (about 1 cm in width, full vertical height)  - positioned left and right of the camera feed. The camera feed itself  is stretched smaller in width. It almost looks like if the camers is thinking it should be in portrait and is scaling the feed accordingly. Apologies that I don't have a screenshot at hand.

I have confirmed reports of this happening on multiple iPhone SE models. There are unconfirmed reports of this happening on iPhone 6s.

Has anyone encountered this - or can point me in the direction of a possible explanation and/or fix?

Thanks in advance!

Pieter

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!

The default orientation is 'Auto Rotation'.

I deployed the sample app to an iPhone SE with ‘Auto Rotation’ set as the default orientation and then set “Camera Direction” to “CAMERA_FRONT” in the Vuforia Configuration. I didn’t see any black bars in landscape mode with these settings while using the front camera.
