Recommended Devices

The list below represents some of the most popular devices used with Vuforia Engine, and includes additional information about specific device compatibility with Vuforia Engine features.

Beyond the list of devices below, Vuforia Engine supports vision-only tracking for features such as Image Targets, Cylinders, Multi Targets, and VuMarks. Advanced Features, such as Model Targets, Area Targets, and Ground Plane, require support for Device Tracking using using Vuforia Fusion. Please check the Supported iOS device compatibility list and ARCore-supported devices for a complete list of devices that support ARKit and ARCore that may support advanced features in Engine.

Area Targets are only supported on ARKit or ARCore-enabled devices, as well as the Magic Leap 2 and the HoloLens 2.  The Area Target Capture API is only supported on ARKit devices with LiDAR sensors.

Other platform and feature requirements can be found on the Supported Versions page, including what device operating systems are supported.

For information about Vuforia Driver and how to support additional devices, please read our driver documentation here.

For Best Performance

The device families below typically have the best performance and robustness when running AR experiences with Engine. We recommend using devices that were released in the past 2 years, but the past 4 years should be sufficient.

Other Devices

Below are notes concerning other device families.

Devices Notes
Samsung Galaxy Tab Although Galaxy Tab devices do support AR experiences using ARCore and Engine, the devices often do not perform as well as Galaxy S phones.
Samsung Galaxy A Although Galaxy A devices do support AR experiences using ARCore and Engine, the devices often do not perform as well as Galaxy S phones. If ARCore is not enabled, the Galaxy A may perform very poorly.
Xiaomi Phones Xiaomi Phones often do not perform as well as other devices running AR experiences. The level of support mainly depends on the availability of ARCore on the specific device.

UWP Tablets
*Including the Microsoft Surface Pro and Dell Latitude tablets

Unfortunately, UWP tablets do not perform well running AR experiences and are not recommended.

Additionally, since they do not have a platform device tracker like ARKit and ARCore, advanced features such as Area Targets and Ground Plane are not supported.

Other Android Devices Performance depends on availability of ARCore and on the processor and GPU. Due to Android fragmentations it is possible that some additional features, like AutoFocus or AutoExposure, might not work as expected.
